The more days I spend with it, the more I like it. I am talking of my relatively recent mobile phone, the Motorola RAZR V3x. In this post I’m going to compare it with its predecessor, the V3, and the main points that have turned me into a follower of this brand.
Some time ago, I don’t rememeber how much, a Motorola RAZR V3 fell to my hands. It was the best combination of features and size I have never seen on a phone. Refering to multimedia, capabilities of playing mp3, digital camera, and voice recorder were enough for me. Bluetooth connection system, that lets it to send and receive files from any other system with USB (this is what I used to transfer files from/to my PC), and if you use Windows, you can also use a USB connection to sync data with Motorola Phone Tools. And what can I say about the dimensions? It’s very very slim! It’s not small, but slim. Motorola had a very good idea, because instead of following the tendency of “the lighter and smaller, the better”, the though how a phone should be to fit better inside pockets, bags, or whatever. The rest of manufacturers have learnt it, and if you look at the new designs, they follos this tendenecy. So, for me, the V3 is the best mobile in comfort terms. The only bad point is the low memory, that can limit tha amount of multimedia data we store in it.
But now, I am the owner of a fantabuloso V3x, a variant – some people say it is the succesor- of the V3. The first impression was not good, because it looks (and it is) bigger than before. But not much, you only appreciate it with the thickness (if you take a very slim mobile, and increase it even a bit, you notice it more than if it was not so slim :) ). But apart from this, the rest of changes are nice, and the more you use it, the more you like it.
The user interface is similar to the old one, but improved. Better graphics, better fonts… this type of things. Capabilities to do videoconference using 3G, but I haven’t tested it yet. Multimedia features are better: A camara with more resolution (2Mp!!!), with flash (yes, a white bright light to increase the clarity of the more darker scenes, but only at close range). And the memory… it is no more a limit! With 64 Mb of internal memory, and the possibility to expand it with a MicroSD card (it comes with a 128 Mb card), you don’t have to worry. And now, you can connect it to the PC on sync mode, to use it with the Motorola Phone Tools, or connect it on data mode… and use it like a pendrive!!! So, now I can transfer data between my Linux and my phone as simpler as it was a USB stick. Oh, and it still have the bluetooth feature, of course.
But the best surprise happened this week. On monday, the battery runs out, and I discovered I forgot the charger in my house (I spend the laboral days in Barcelona, not on my town :( ). So, I thought that until friday night I couldn’t use my phone. But yesterday, and idea appeared in my head: the usb system has been designed to tranfer data and as a power supply of some devices, so maybe the V3x can take profit of this… I connected it to my computer with the USB cable, and BINGO! It started charging itself. Now, i have it at full charge. And, also, I know I don’t have to take the charger always with my, I only need a computer with USB :)
