When I had Gentoo on my laptop (a long time ago), I had Synaptics installed. I though that it simply add to the touchpad the possibility of scrolling, but I usually had annoying problems (scrolling when I didn’t want, going back on the web browser…) and eventually I uninstalled it. These days I’m just using the touchpad instead of using a mini USB mouse, just because I use the laptop on the sofa or on the bed and apart from my belly there isn’t any surface smooth enough to use it :P. But the touchpad alone is crappy when you do an intensive use of the computer, so I gave another try to Synaptics, and I was gladly surprised!

The best picture with the best tool
New GNU/Linux users usually get lost or confused when they need to edit/create pictures/graphics/photos. They only know the word “Photoshop”, and maybe Corel Draw, Distiller, and other commercial programs. But you can found very good open source programs for your amateur and professional graphics necessities. As my personal experience, I would recommend: Continue reading
Free web services using free software
Blogs, wikis, forums, photo galleries… this kind of webs, driven by a single person (or a reduced number of people) is increasing their numbers. A “short” time ago only companies used the web to advertise their services, while home users simply used the mail, newsgroups and IRC. Internet became popular, and everybody was able to publish his own web page. Internet evolved (and is still evolving, of course), and “social” services appeared: places where to share your phtographs, or your oppinions, or any idea that can be written, with anybody interested on it.
Now, there is a place where all these social tools can be found together.
Problems with Flash using Linux?
Unfortunately, lots of web sites are only made by people with knowledge about graphic design. They only take into account the more fashion FX effect, the best good-looking layout (for their taste), and this type of things. Compatibility and navegability are usually forgot. Why spend time on these aspects, if the boos or the business who is paying us only wants a good looking page. And, anyway, designers know how to design, so they have to convince its client that design is the most important thing of the world. So, this means that lots of web sites are entirely made with Flash, or do a heavy use of it. I complain thinking on all the blind people that could never navigate through these sites…
Partits polítics i programari lliure.

Continue reading
Photos in my web!
At last, I’ve installed on my server an image organizer and viewer. I was tempted to install album, but it is not open source, so finally I chose for minigal, aka MG2. I was looking for something easy to use and nice to my eyes, and at the moment MG2 is accomplishing it with just the default settings and skin.
Oh, you can find it here: http://sachiel.homelinux.net/gallery . I expect to upload here all my images of Warmachine miniatures, nowadays posted in Photobucket.
